¿Escuchasté?

If you don't speak Spanish or if you do speak Spanish, but only in the present and have no idea what-in-the-world a preterite tense is, you may be wondering about the title of this post.  I just learned today that if you say, "¿Viste?" it means, "Did you see that?"  So, I'm assuming that this can also be used for the verb escuchar.  I'm not sure because I am constantly throwing French into my Spanish.  I can only speak Spanish about this well:

Enough with the Spanish practice.  I am always walking into conversations at the wrong time and I hear really strange things.  Here is a conversation I heard today:
"Spencer, is it the goat who is jumping around on the mountain?"
"Yeah, that's what it is!  It's funny, huh?"

I also thought I heard a kid tell me his name was Michael.
"See you later, Michael."
"Who's Michael?"
His name was Jacob.  We named the tree Michael.

And sometimes, I just can't hear things!  A friend asked today, "Is Kenzie here?"  And, what I heard was "Is this kissing?"
No it is not kissing, but thanks for asking!

I think the lesson that can be learned today is to listen with both ears unless it's better to listen with only one ear and your brain!
